Require Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
This guide explains how to configure and enforce Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) using the “Require Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)” setting under System Settings in Seamless.
1. Value Definitions
The value is Optional (default value) when:
“MFA Authenticator Authentication“ and/or “MFA SMS Authentication“ are turned ON.
“Require Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)“ checkbox is unselected.
The value is TRUE when:
“MFA Authenticator Authentication“ and/or“MFA SMS Authentication“ are turned ON.
“Require Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)“ checkbox is selected
The value is False when “MFA Authenticator Authentication“ and “MFA SMS Authentication“ are turned OFF.
MFA Options Enabled | Checkbox Selected | Resulting Value |
---|---|---|
ON (Authenticator/SMS) | Unchecked | Optional (Default) |
ON (Authenticator/SMS) | Checked | TRUE |
OFF (Both) | Any state | FALSE |
2. Enforcing MFA Across the Tenant
When the Require Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) setting is selected (TRUE), the following behavior applies to all users in that tenant:
2.1 MFA Activation Required
All the users in this tenant should be forced to activate the MFA to access the Seamless site (This will not be applied immediately, but rather at the next login or when the user reloads the page).
2.2 Behavior for Inactive MFA Users
The system will redirect the user to the Multi-factor authentication pop-up to activate the MFA.
The user is forced to set up MFA with the “SMS Text Message“ or “TOTP(Time-Based One-Time password)“ option. If the user selects the “MFA Inactive“ option and clicks on the “Save“ button, the pop-up will close briefly and then immediately reopen.
The user cannot perform any other features in Seamless if the MTA setup is not completed.
Notes: In the Security pop-up (Menu > Profile > Security), if a user with MFA already activated attempts to switch to the “MFA Inactive” option and clicks on the “Save“ button, the pop-up will briefly close and then immediately reopen, forcing the user to select one of the two MFA options: SMS Text Message or TOTP (Time-Based One-Time Password).
2.3 Behavior for Users with Activated MFA
They can access the Seamless site with 2FA and the system will NOT redirect the user to the Multi-factor authentication pop-up.
